Ethymology:

The word “date” comes from the Greek daktylos, meaning finger, which recalls the shape of the fruit. The date palm’s fruit is, in fact, a sweet and edible berry, the emblematic fruit tree of the Saharan oases, native to the arid zones of the Near and Middle East.

*Among Muslims, the Ramadan fast is broken with 3 dates every evening.
